First, there was Father Brown, now say hello to Sister Boniface. This clever, moped-riding nun is the police’s secret weapon for solving murders in this Father Brown spin-off.
The series is set in the 1960s in the fictional English town of Great Slaughter. Sister Boniface is a nun at St. Vincent Convent. In addition to her religious duties, she makes wine and has a Ph.D. in forensic science, which allows her to assist in local police investigations.
In the premiere episode, Unnatural Causes, a housemaid is found dead at a local festival, which puts a damper on Great Slaughter’s festive gathering. Detective Inspector Sam Gillespie calls on Sister Boniface to act as his scientific advisor on the case.
Sister Boniface’s work unravels a web of deceit that leads the police to open a second investigation into the death of a man who died six months earlier.
Watch Sister Boniface Mysteries on Thursdays at 8pm beginning January 5 on WITF TV or through the PBS Video app livestream.
