Mentoring Monday event features women executives

Airdate: April 21st, 2023

PA Media Group’s fourth annual Mentoring Monday for women event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. April 24 in Founders Hall at the Milton Hershey School.

Mentoring Monday is a nationwide event that takes place in nine markets served by Advance Local, parent company of PA Media Group and PennLive.

Joining us on The Spark Friday were Cate Barron, President of PA Media Group and Joyce Davis, PennLive’s Outreach and Opinion Editor, who will be moderating the event.

Barron indicated that mentoring women was especially important now,”Since the pandemic hit, the number of working women has declined by 13% across the country. And that’s compared to about 11% for men. Lean in. And McKinsey found that 29% of all working women in America have either cut hours, taken a less demanding job at their workplace, or dropped out entirely. They’re calling it, of course, the great resignation or the great breakup. That compares at 29% compared to 22% for all men. And the sharp decline has taken place, especially among women in leadership positions. So we think now more than ever, it’s really important that we do these events to get women networking with other professionals.”

Davis talked about the role of a mentor,”One of the things I learned from my husband, who’s a chaplain, said, you know, always need to give people the solution. You don’t always need to tell them what to do, because I like the here’s what you do now. You just need to listen, let them think through things. And then if it seems like they’re open to some guidance, you say, well, here’s what you might think about.”

Barron described how those who want to participate in the event can do,”If you want to register, go to events at Pennlive.com. We’re also taking registrations at the door, but again, 6 to 8 p.m. this Monday.
