Unsettled weekend pattern brings storm chances and cools us down

TODAY: Mostly Sunny, Muggy with Stray Storm. Hi 90. Winds SSE 5-10 mph.

TONIGHT: Partly Cloudy. Lo 74. Winds E 5 mph.

FRIDAY: Mostly Cloudy, Scattered Showers and Storms. Hi 88. Lo 73.

The heat remains for at least one more day in the Midstate. Many of us will hit 90 Thursday afternoon, where it will feel even hotter for many thanks to plentiful atmospheric moisture. The only major change Thursday is the chance for the stray afternoon shower and storm in the afternoon, a potential source of local cooling for some. Lows drop into a comfortable mid 70s range overnight thanks to the increased humidity in the region.

The weekend will herald in the next round of rain to our neck of the woods. Sunday will be our best shot for more widespread rain, however the opportunity is out there for some scattered shower and thunderstorm activity as well. None of these rain chances will be drought-busters, but at this point any and all accumulation is appreciated. What might be more interesting is the fact that highs drop from the 90s today into the low 80s by the end of the week thanks to a rare summer cold front. Temperatures remain in the low 80s through next Monday before rebounding into the 90s by next Wednesday. Lows remain in the upper 60s to low 70s throughout the next 7 days.
