The Kennedy Center, for decades, has been at the forefront of representing America’s diverse musical palette and performing arts culture. The program features artists who are at the top of their disciplines and who have left an imprint on our culture. Although the Center stays true to its roots in symphony, opera, ballet, and Broadway, diverse genres such as hip hop, jazz, folk, comedy, and modern dance are equally embraced to reflect our nation’s artistic landscape. 

Cynthia Erivo is known for her acting roles in films such as HarrietWidows, and Drift along with her Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award wins, but the dynamic star also has a rich musical history. Her Broadway fame began with her role in a 2011 stage production of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and the 2015 to 2017 revival of The Color Purple, for which she won a 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Ben Platt is known for his performance in Dear Evan Hanson, for which he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, but he made his Broadway debut in the 2012 production of The Book of Mormon. Platt also boasts film credits from Pitch Perfect, Ricki and the Flash, Run This Town, and Drunk Parents. 

Joaquina Kalukango is best known for playing Nelly O’Brien in the musical Paradise Square and winning a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2022 for her role. Her film credits consists of One Night in Miami  and When They See Us
