Heat cranks up ahead of rain-maker low

SUNDAY: Heavy cloud cover. Hi. 88. Winds S 5-15 mph.

TONIGHT: Stray shower, Cloudy. Lo 68. Winds SSE 5-15 mph.

MONDAY: Showers and Storms. Hi 79. Lo 67.

Quite the dramatic temperature shift lies in store Sunday as afternoon temperatures shoot into the upper 80s ahead of our next big rain-maker. Unusually, skies will be overcast or nearly overcast on what will be an extremely warm day. Skies however, remain dry throughout the day. Overnight temperatures will drop into the upper 60s, noticeably warmer in terms of lows thanks to heavy cloud cover and a process known as compressional heating, a phenomena in which air compresses together and warms ahead of a cold front.

We return to normal and stay relatively mild temperature-wise heading into Monday. Highs remain in the upper 70s, before warming into the mid 80s by the turn of next weekend. The cold front rolling in Monday can be thanked for the shift down to normalcy. Probably more intriguing to most people will be the big chance for some decent rain totals over the course of Monday. Widespread rain is expected across the Midstate as shower and thunderstorms push through ahead of the cold front. In terms of rain totals, 1/2" of rain is one of the more reasonable totals seen through a couple model runs, however locally higher or lower totals are possible. Outside of Monday, some limited potential for scattered showers and storms exists Wednesday while the rest of the week remains relatively dry.
